The ruins of Gede is one of the most interesting historical sites of the coast. According to the remains which include Persian porcelains, Indian lamps, Venetian beads, Ming porcelain ,scissors from Spain , Gede should be an Arab – Swahili rich and prosperous city . The ruins, now shrouded in lush greenery colonized by monkeys ,tell us of a beautiful city, mysteriously abandoned in 1400. Gede is also known as the “City of Ghosts “. The traditional local beliefs make this location magical and dreaded at the same time: the local tribes tell us of spirits who watch over the ancient forest where the ruins of Gede are, and that no-one of the inhabitants would get into it after sunset .. Together with a local guide, you can retrace the streets and history of this legendary city.
